Plagiarism

We cite so that the credit for work or the ideas are given to the proper person who actual had the idea and did the work.  It guides others to information that is cited and shows you to be a honest writer.  I sit here trying to think of what I would do if someone took credit for my work, after becoming upset, I then would first gather my backup showing that the credit was mine then proceed to take the steps needed to correct the issue.

I have worked in a few offices where an executive has took credit for information that actually came from an employee that answered to that executive.  Nothing ever came of it due to the fact the employees worried about their jobs and let it go.  What should have taken place is to confront him first then if that did not work you would proceed to the next level of authority.  Since I do not work there anymore I can only hope that someone did finally step up.

As for the Internet I think the lines do get blurred somewhat depending on the sites such as Wikipedia and others like it.  With the technology that is created everyday I know they have ways of tracking the lines of “legally owned” more than they use to but with every new knowledge comes those that seem to find a way around all the road blocks.  Based on that it is like any fight there is victory but yet another fight around the corner, so goes plagiarism there will always be those who take credit they do not deserve.

College Online

College online, will the buildings with all the classrooms become obsolete probably not, but the way the world turns and the way things change from year to year makes anything possible.  Most co-workers or friends i know say they attend college online I cannot think of any one that actually goes to a college building to attend class.  As for me working full time, raising a child, online courses give me flexibility and the ability to stay at home allowing me to reach my goal in getting a college degree.  I will be honest that on a very personal level at the age of 52 years the thought of walking into a class room full of much younger students would probably intimidate me greatly.  For the most part I enjoy the way online courses are structured with live seminars and step by step units per week the only thing I can think of that I would like to see more of would be examples to go along with each unit.  Take a class in nutrition you are asked to do a nutritional assessment since I have never seen one much less written one I have no clue where to start or how it should look in written form but if there was an example for reference that would help.  At times you can feel overwhelmed but that can be with anything in life, without programs like Kaplan University I would not have the opportunity to get a college degree so for that alone I am grateful for online courses.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog class of CM229 College Composition II with Kaplan University.  I am new to this type of writing or should I say new to blogging at the same time I find myself intrigued concerning it.  The most writing I do in a day is emails or playing around on Facebook but it is all very short statements not indepth writing at all.  What is the statement I have heard, "nothing ventured nothing gained", so in this process I hope to gained a complete understanding in writing becoming confident in what I write and in what I have to say.  Again, welcome!

Do you matter?

Ever get so tired of a day in and day out on a job where you feel life is just going by and there you sit?  Looking around at others in the office then it dawns on you that you are the oldest one in that office and all those in charge are in their 20's or 30's.  How did this happen when did the pathways go astray?  Driving home not sure how you get there because the mind is still trying to figure it all out and wanting to find a way to feel needed or even important in some way.  Among folding letters, stuffing envelopes answering the phones thinking is this it, is this all there is to ones self and as the day turns to night the last thing you think of as the eyes close is....do you matter?
